Writing Prompt 14: In the Sea
As the Sun Fades
She stands there in the waves letting the water rise up to her knees. The sky is filled with a pale delicate orange that reflects off the damp sand. The sun will set soon and the sky will fill with stars.
What’s the story you can find here?
The water rose and lapped around Eve's legs, bubbling and foaming, gentle waves crashing onto the shore behind her.
She lifted her feet high stepping over the low waves until she was standing in the water up to her knees. The sky lay clear of clouds, a delicate pale yellow washed across the sky as the sun began to set. With every minute of fading light, the colours shifted and changed until the sun itself evolved into a bright orange fiery orb glowing on the horizon. Eve turned to face the sunset walking a little further into the water letting a tangle of seaweed gather around her fingertips. Her hair lifted in the evening breeze that was blowing from the hills behind.
The sun dropped away and the sky deepened into the colour of dark indigo pushing everything into the night.
Eve looked down and waded back through the water to the shoreline. She untangled the bright green seaweed from her hand and bent down to wash it away in the water. Stars began to dot the sky, tiny pinpricks of faint distant light. She stood for a while until her legs and feet grew cold from the cooling air.
A voice drifted over the water calling her name. She turned around. There was no one near her. The voice reached down to her ear. A hand tucked her hair behind her shoulder gently, with love, with care. The voice breathed into her neck.
Eve. Evie. Leave now before they take you.
Eve jumped and turned around and around. Sweat began to roll down her body. Her eyes were wide open, startled.
Two hands. Unfamiliar. Another voice. A stranger. Real.
"Hello? Hello? Miss? Are you okay?"
Someone caught her arm before she collapsed into the sand.
