Photo Notes #3
Not too much writing today but lots of photographs taken on a trip to the captivating Hawaiian island of Kauai in February.
I deliberated for some time over which camera to take. I don’t know any photographer who owns just the one camera. Different cameras give different types of pictures.
The photographs below I took with my Nikon FM3a which I bought new about twenty-odd years ago. With manual focus, manual aperture and manual shutter speed settings, my brain took a bit of a hit trying to remember how to use it well.
One thing I always remember is film needs LOTS of light, which can be tricky when handholding in less than bright sun. And the focus. Oh my. I’m not sure if it’s my ageing eyes (probably) or being out of practice (absolutely) but focusing with this camera is not the easiest.
And yet. I had some success. Over seven rolls of film, there are several photos that stand out from the rest. I used a mixture of Kodak Portra 400 and Cinestill 400D just choosing which one to use each day with not too much thought. I was on holiday after all.
